Coventry Blitz

Created by Year 6 at Wheelwright Lane Primary School

About our project

During September, Year 6 got a letter from the Herbert Art Gallery asking them to create some work to share the thoughts of children about life during World War Two in the historical city of Coventry.

We decided to use art, drama, and our research skills to find out about real people’s lives during the war. The people in our work really did live at these addresses in 1939 – according to the census at that time; however, details of the children were not published. We used these as a starting point and imagined the children and the experiences of the families – including during and after the night of the 14th of November when a third of all buildings in the city were destroyed or terribly damaged.

On this page you will find 3d interactive models of houses on Kensington Road and Westwood Road before and after the Blitz.

You will be able to delve into the history of the families who resided in these properties and see how we think the war might have impacted their lives.

With thanks to The Herbert Art Gallery & Coventry Cathedral.
